Today's Workout Is...

Once a week, I like to run a "longer" static run (meaning no hills or intervals, just a straight endurance run). My idea of "longer" is 4-5 miles so nothing major ;-)

Why not run more often? Running is a great workout that burns calories and keeps your heart healthy BUT if you're always doing the same run, same distance, same incline... your body eventually adapts and it's no longer challenged or burning as many calories, so it's important to mix it up. The second disadvantage to simply running is that the calories you burn while running are all the calories you'll burn from that workout. On the other hand, when you lift weights or do intense cardio intervals, your body will continue burning additional calories for the next 24-48 hours as it repairs from the intense activity. So why not take the double burn?

Today, I did 4 miles and then finished off with 8 sets of pull-ups to failure. I just keep going until I can't do any more... rest for 10 seconds and then start again. This is the perfect way to get in some killer strength training in a very short amount of time. The pull-ups took about 5 minutes, and the run took 30. I got a full-body workout in 35 minutes!! Once again... this is proof that you don't need to spend tons of time sculpting your body... just hit it hard!!

My running partner loves to wave flags as we are cruising. Here
he has his Greek flag from the Greek Fest last week... haha!
